Hvar, Croatia - October 10-23, 2018

Welcome to the beautiful island of Hvar!

And the gorgeous view from our living room window...

We arrived on the ferry at night into the port and it was stunning. The ferry ride went very well. They boys could run around and we met two amazing ladies from England who were on their way to Split as well as a family from Bradford (only she was Peruvian and he was from Montreal). It was so nice to talk with someone other than each other :) We headed to Alviz, a well reviewed and affordable restaurant, for pizza of course.

Hvar was chosen to be a more long term and relaxing destination. It did not disappoint. We are here off season, so all of the crazy parties are packed up until next summer. We weren't disappointed. Apparently the small port town gets inundated with young tourists and Croatians, prices sky rocket and walking through the town is almost impossible and unpleasant (this from the guy who rented up our paddleboards).

We made many plans, some of which did not materialise, but overall we just lived life. We walk to the market every day and the boys like harassing the pigeons that hang out in the plaza in front of St. Stephen's Cathedral. They also usually con us into getting some sort of treat from the bakery, not that it's incredibly hard. We've decided to rotate dinner duties, so we each take a turn planning, shopping and cooking dinner. We've also incorporated a movie into our dinner time.

The weather here is amazing, we average 24 degrees with bright sunshine almost every day. We've taken a lot of walk around the town and Luke and I have gotten into a bit of a running routine along the water. There is a park and beach within a 10 minute walk from our place. Both have been in steady rotation since we arrived.

We "hiked" up to the Spanish fortress above the city. It gave us spectacular views of the port. Hvar was under Venetian rule for a couple of hundreds of years. The city still retains it's original fortress walls, although the town has expanded well past them. It is well known for it's lavender fields and olive oil production.

Luke and I managed to sneak away for an afternoon and spend it at the Amfora, a large hotel with a massive pool. Of course, I chose basically the only cool and overcast day of our entire trip, but it was still entirely worth it.

Isa and I managed to get a beautiful morning of stand up paddle boarding in before the weather turned. The water got a little rough with the passing ferries, but we succeeded in remaining upright the entire time.

After this day, it got cool and most of the businesses, including our paddling guys, closed shop for the winter months.

Hvar is definitely worth the visit, but I would recommend visiting in the off season like we did. It is a very clean town, water is perfect temp and crystal clear. That being said it is expensive, so be prepared for that. You can't beat the views though...
