Mendoza, Argentina Xmas

Merry Christmas... baby it's hot outside!!
The flight to Mendoza was an easy one. No issues and we checked into our airbnb no problem. The only surprise is that we are "sort of" sharing a house with the owner's brother. He has his own self contained side of the place and uses the kitchen minimally. No problem, he seems nice anyways and he has a pet tortoise that lives in our garden...we call her Christy...although she has a much more complex spanish name.

We've officially initiated Xmas mode. They even have a little tree set up for us here. This is our week to relax and veg holiday style. Every night has included dessert and a Christmas movie to get us in the mood. We even managed to sneak in our annual prime rib dinner...although missing the company of some great friends.

It's hot as hades here though. Like 40 degrees, singe your pale skin hot. We've been trying to battle the heat in the pool (yes xmas pool time) and with lots of ice cream, but we can't be out in the sun very long with the kids.

We're all getting out for our runs every couple of days. Usually super early before it gets past 30 degrees. Other than that, we aren't out exploring much. We walked downtown one day, but Mendoza doesn't have any "must see" sights and is a fairly normal mid-sized city. We're ok with that though.

For Christmas eve, I made tourtiere and we started our Harry Potter Xmas marathon. The internet isn't exactly cooperating and we have a feeling Harry may carry over well past Xmas.
On Christmas morning we got up and had our coffee with Bailey's and cinnamon buns. Then we opened a few small gifts. The boys were excited about the wrapping paper and their hot wheels cars. We headed outside for our first xmas water baloon fight. It took the boys a bit to get what was happening, but once they did the war was in full effect.
The rest of the day was spent eating our picadas, empanadas and snacks, drinking beer and indulging in as much Harry Potter as we could stream.

Luke and I decided to tack on a wine tasting trip and set out via bicycle through Mendoza's wine country. For a set price we visited a winery/brewery. Their beer is cold fermentation, like champagne. It is absolutely delicious. We also visited two other wineries and had a lovely lunch.  There is no pour limit for this tour, so they keep filling your glass until you stop them. Needless to say pedaling back was a little labour intensive.  It was well worth the money and we would recommend it to anyone. Everyone was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot.

Tomorrow we leave for Chile! Argentina has been amazing and is very diverse. We hope to come back and travel through Patagonia when the kids are older.

Cheers to a successful voyage of Argentina!!
